HARP - South Ayrshire
A specific exercise programme designed to guide those with heart, lung, cancer, stroke or diabetic medical history to improve or maintain their health through regular physical activity.
How do you get involved?
You can be referred to HARP by a health professional e.g. GP, practice nurse, cardiac / pulmonary physiotherapist, cancer nurse specialist, stroke specialist nurse, or one of the NHS HARP team. For people with heart, stroke or complex medical history an exercise referral form can be completed by a health professional and sent to the Health Team. For people with pulmonary condition, cancer or diabetes an activity voucher can be completed by a health-professional or you can self-refer.
HARP helps with:
• Guiding participants on appropriate exercises for their health conditions
• Supporting clients to improve on both their cardiovascular fitness and strength whilst still safely managing their health conditions
• Managing/ or improving quality of life
• Maintaining independence
• Motivation and mental health. Class setting is very relaxed, and everyone is welcome. Participants all support each other to become more active
